Steven Woomert is a student in the Artist Diploma Program at the Glenn Gould School, where as a recipient of a Chancellor's Scholarship, he studies with Andrew McCandless, Principal Trumpet of the Toronto Symphony. In June 2013, he was the First Prize winner of the Orchestral Excerpts competition at the International Trumpet Guild. In addition, Steven currently is a finalist for the New World Symphony, the prestigious training orchestra in Miami, Florida. In the past year, he has performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, True North Brass, and the Hannaford Street Silver Band.

A 2012 graduate of Northwestern University, Steven earned a Bachelor of Music degree with a major in Trumpet Performance as a student of Barbara Butler, Charles Geyer, and Christopher Martin, Principal Trumpet of the Chicago Symphony. At Northwestern, Steven and his brass quintet were selected to represent the university as performers in the 2012 Kennedy Center Millennium Stage Conservatory Project in Washington, D.C. He also was a member of the school's student-run entry that earned first place in the Ensemble Division of the 2012 National Trumpet Competition. In recent summers, Steven won positions in the Banff Festival Orchestra, National Academy Orchestra of Canada, the National Orchestral Institute at the University of Maryland, and the National Youth Orchestra of Canada.

Born in Etobicoke, Steven developed his musical interests through many opportunities including the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra, where he was the winner of the 2008 Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition and performed as soloist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. In addition, Steven was the 2007 Greater Toronto Kiwanis Senior Brass Trophy Winner and 2007 Silver Medalist in the Brassroots Young Brass Players' Competition. Other opportunities included performances with the Ontario Provincial Honour Band, Etobicoke Youth Band, Etobicoke Philharmonic, his local high school, Martingrove Collegiate Institute, and his church, Islington United.
