Ruta Melkiene

Violin

Ruta was born in Lithuania and started playing the violin at age 5 under the guidance of her mother. She studied at several schools of the arts for gifted children before entering the Music Academy in Vilnius. With experience as a soloist and teacher, as well as a member of chamber groups and orchestras, EPO was delighted to welcome her in 2003.

Ruta also earned a Masters degree in Economics from the University of Vilnius and enjoys her role as a Senior Financial Advisor at Scotiabank. She has lived in Toronto with her husband and two children for many years but retains a strong affinity with her homeland and is very active in the local Lithuanian community.

Ruta escapes the cold Toronto winters by travelling to Caribbean islands and is learning Spanish in her leisure time.
