Dancer with Ritmo Flamenco
Anjelica Scannura has been dancer since she was very young, beginning her training at Canada's National Ballet School. Anjelica is an accomplished and award-winning dancer of diverse backgrounds. Her specialties are in Spanish dance, Middle Eastern dance (Bellydancer of the Universe winner 2013), Irish dance (Eastern Canadian Champion), Contemporary and Ballet. She received the Chalmers Professional Development Grant to pursue her studies in flamenco at the renowned Amor de Dios Studios in Madrid Spain, amongst other prominent schools in Jerez de la Frontera over the course of her early adolescence. Anjelica's first full-length production "Danzas Sagradas" enjoyed a successful run in 2013 and was proud to be presented by Harbourfront's NextSteps. Her second full-length production "Sirocco" was nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore award and was re-mounted twice. Anjelica is the first North American finalist ever in the "Certamen coreografia de Danzas Española y Flamenco" in Madrid in 2013, which showcases the World's finest emerging Flamenco choreographers and dancers. While in Madrid, she also presented a work at the prestigious Teatro Galileo Galilei. In addition to dance, Anjelica is an accomplished actress, completing roles for film, television and commercials. Anjelica's career highlights thus far were performing the female solo dance role in the Canadian Opera Company's "Don Quichotte" as well as starring in the film "Flamenco," which had its world premiere at the ReelAsian Film Festival in November and will be screened at Dance Camera West in LA and the Ukrainian Int'l Short Film Festival, among others (TBA). She has performed for dignitaries and celebrities and is the face of President's Choice "Memories of Spain" food line. She recently performed in the Middle East and the Caribbean and she regularly teaches all over Ontario (Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Sarnia) and currently has teaching residences at various secondary schools.
