Eleanor Marshall
English Horn
Eleanor grew up in a rural area outside of Orillia, Ontario. Interested in music from an early age, her parents enrolled her in piano accordion lessons, where she encountered the first of many very fine music teachers and participated in ensembles and national competitions. Later, she began to study piano, and when introduced to wind instruments in high school was drawn to the oboe. After completing a Bachelor of Music Education at the University of Western Ontario, and a Bachelor of Education at Queen’s University, she taught elementary school vocal and instrumental music in eastern Ontario and York Region, and played in local small ensembles before joining the York Symphony. Now retired, she’s enjoying spending more time playing the oboe and English horn in groups around the GTA and is very pleased to be part of the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra.
