Piano, North York Music Festival concerto winner
Vanessa Yu began playing the piano at the age of 6. Since then, she has been a featured performer and prizewinner at several competitions and galas including the OMFA Provincial Finals, Toronto Kiwanis Festival, North York Music Festival, Markham Music Festival and the Unionville Music Academy Competition, among others. She recently won first prize at the ORMTA GTA Zone Young Artist Competition and second prize at the Canadian Music Competition National Finals, as well as scholarships from various festivals. Vanessa has also performed a solo program for the Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra’s season opening concert. She has completed her RCM Associate Diploma in Piano Performance and is working towards her Licentiate. Vanessa is currently a grade 12 student in the auditioned Arts Unionville piano program where she performs regularly as a soloist, collaborative pianist and flautist. She studies privately with Victoria Gimelshtein.
