Mezzo-Soprano, Jamie Groote is a first-year master’s student in the University of Toronto’s Opera School and is thrilled to be back in her home city. Most recently Jamie performed the role of Donna Elvira in U of T’s production of Don Giovanni in which she was referred to as a “standout of the evening”. Jamie has also performed challenging roles such as, The Fox (Cunning Little Vixen), Nicklausse (Les contes d’Hoffman), Enfant (L’Enfant et les sortilèges), and Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi) to name a few. She has also had the wonderful opportunity of attending esteemed young artist programs such as Houston Grand Opera’s Young Artist Vocal Academy, Central City Opera’s Bonfils-Stanton young artist program, and Opera Nuova to name a few.
Jamie is currently studying with soprano, Wendy Nielsen and looks very forward to continuing their work together. Previously, Jamie studied with mezzo soprano, Kimberly Barber at Wilfrid Laurier University where she completed her Honours Bachelor of Music and Opera Diploma. While at Laurier Jamie received several awards and opportunities including, being nominated for the Hynatyshyn Foundation Grant, receiving the Maureen Forrester Performance scholarship, and the Marilyn Scheifele Memorial scholarship, as well as performing in the world premiere of Stephanie Martin’s “Babel” and winning the WLU Concerto Competition in 2014. She looks very forward to her debut as Mercedes with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony in their Carmen in concert next season, as well as her debut as a soloist with the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra.
