James Ciantar

James Ciantar

"A real find" - Joseph So, Opera Canada Magazine. Canadian born tenor James Ciantar is a fresh and exciting young new talent to watch. He has a very impressive, Italianate tenor sound with an easy top register. A warm graceful voice with a bright, full timbre that is bright but heavy enough to reach those dramatic climaxes and can be heard over an orchestra easily. His voice has been described as having that "old fashion" beauty from a past era. His bright voice and warm colour is coupled with clear Italianate diction and charismatic stage presence. James began singing at an early age and in the last few years he has been fortunate to form a professional team of teachers and coaches from the University of Toronto Opera division, Royal Conservatory of Music, Metropolitan Opera including very distinguished Opera performers, conductors and directors guiding his vocal pedagogy, technique, role interpretation and career.

James is an accomplished artist and performer, his orchestral engagements include performances with the Brampton Lyric Opera Orchestra, Cambridge Community Orchestra, Symphony Hamilton and Opera York Orchestra. James is developing and interpreted numerous roles including: Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Alfredo (La Traviata), Canio (I Pagliacci), Rodolfo (La Bohéme), Cavardossi (Tosca). His proudest moment to date was receiving the Award for "Most Outstanding Performance in a Lead Role" by the Brampton Arts Council for his lead debut of 'Canio' in Brampton Lyric Opera's production of I Pagliacci. In 2009 James sang the role of "Cavaradossi" in the March sold-out Opera York performance of "Tosca" at the new Richmond Hill Centre for the performing arts where he received glorious reviews by opera critics and peers.

In October, James has been invited to sing for Opera Hamilton. In November 2010, James will perform the role of Rodolfo in Puccini's (La Bohéme) at the Living Arts Centre with Opera Kitchener. In December 2010 he will be the tenor soloist with the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra. James has sung, studied and auditioned throughout Ontario, Québec, the United States and Italy.
