Our Music Director
After an intensive and exhilarating search, the award-winning Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra is delighted to announce its new Music Director.
Matthew Jones was chosen from a group of talented musicians and conductors who individually took the orchestra through the EPO's past concert season and his inaugural appearance will be in October 2018 at the first concert of the 2018/19 season.
As well as a vibrant and enthusiastic conductor, Matthew is a cellist and recorder player, and was the Music Director of the Timmins Symphony Orchestra for 15 years. He also founded the Timmins Symphony Chorus.
He has recently acted as guest conductor with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Mississauga Symphony, Georgian Bay Symphony, Sault Saint Marie Symphony and the North Bay Symphony.
As well as conducting, Matthew's passion is also teaching students cello, recorder and theory, from beginner through to advanced. Recently he was in a faculty position with Geoffrey James Lee School of Music. He is also a board member of Orchestra's Canada, the national voice of the Canadian orchestral community.
"I am very excited and thrilled to be joining the EPO and its talented musicians," he says, "and look forward immensely to the journey ahead as its Music Director."
